I don’t know about you guys but the time between January and April is a weird one when it comes to shopping. Retailers are launching their spring collections but weather (at least here in Missouri) is in the thick of winter where it’s snowing every other week. While I would love to wear short-sleeves and dresses, that just can’t happen when it’s 20 degrees out. #nothankyou
So, I thought I’d do a little dressing room try-on for you guys to A) get you pumped up for spring, B) show you some new arrivals, and C) inspire you to wear these “spring inspired” items during the dead of winter.
Check out my favorite outfits below! They are continuing to bring out new stuff – especially online – so I’ll definitely add more to this Dressing Room Diaries (and my closet) in the future.
Current Sale Info: ONLINE ONLY – 25-60% OFF EVERYTHING (INCLUDING JEANS)
TOP DETAILS: How cute and feminine is this top?! I became obsessed as soon as I started buttoning it up. Nursing-friendly. Cute for spring and summer. Material is a linen so it’s lightweight and comfortable enough for warm weather. And can we just take a moment for the sleeve details?? Five stars! Wearing an X-Small.
TOP DETAILS: This style of top comes in a variety of colors and materials but this one particularly was my favorite! I thought the mauve color was perfect for spring and the material was a bit thicker than the black one (below) making it great to wear in the cooler months leading up to it. It’s also nursing-friendly which I’m all about. Wearing size Small.
JEAN DETAILS: I’ve been wanting to try mom jeans for a while now but was afraid how they’d look since I’m on the shorter side. I was also skeptical if I could pull them off because they do require a bit of a different styling mindset than what I’m used to. I’m happy to report — I LOVE THEM. I think I’ll do a whole blog post related to them. What would you think? Anyway, for right now, I recommend sticking with your true size or going down one for these mom jeans specifically. Since I’m 4 months postpartum, my sizing is still a little off but I went down a size from what I’ve been wearing recently in AE’s super high-waisted jeggings. However, when I tried on a different style of mom jean, this size didn’t fit. So fair WARNING: sizing does change depending on the style of mom jean you’re looking at! Also, these are the regular length and I would definitely need the short (I’m 5’1″ for reference).
TOP DETAILS: I thought this turtleneck was so cute! Black and white stripes are a staple piece that can transition from season to season really well. I could see myself styling this turtleneck underneath cardigans or sweaters, or worn simply on it’s own. Wearing an X-Small.
JEAN DETAILS: Since having Chase, I’ve been obsessed with the AE NE(X)T Level Super High-Waisted Jeggings. The stretchy fabric makes them oh-so comfortable and that high-waist is definitely needed during the postpartum months. I’m obsessed with the buttons on these and love that they are non-distress (perfect for work or church) so they had to come home with me. They run true to size and if you’re ordering online, consider your height (I’m 5’1″ so I get the short length).
*I had mixed feelings about this button down top. It’s a thick material so it fit more like a jacket than a shirt – would be great for cool spring days! The length is also flattering for petite frames. Wearing an X-Small.
TOP DETAILS: Okay, so I love this blouse. The waist, cuffs and chest are cinched, and the pattern is just so flattering and feminine. I can see myself dressing this with a pair of black trousers for work and then on the weekends with jeans. And how cute will it be with white denim?! Love, love, LOVE! Also comes in this color but I’m partial to the black! Keep in mind, I’m wearing the top with the Super High-Waisted Jeggings but pair it with mid-rise for a subtle cropped look. Wearing X-Small.
TOP DETAILS: I actually ended up loving this sweater. It’s not super heavy so it would transition into spring great, AND it would be so pretty in the fall as well. It’s supposed to be pretty form-fitting and a crop length though so I’m wearing a size Medium with mid-rise jeans to avoid showing off my mid-section. 🙂 If you want to do the same, I’d recommend sizing up two sizes!
SWEATER DETAILS: This is another sweater that is supposed to fit cropped so I sized up to a Small (I’m normally an X-Small in AE Sweaters) and wearing the Super High-Waisted Jeggings to avoid showing my mid-section. I really like the relaxed fit and the fact that you could wear this as an off-the-shoulder number as well.
SWEATER SIZING: This sweater comes in a variety of colors but i thought this one would be cute for Spring. It’s styled to be a cropped fit so I got a Small and paired it with the Super High-Waisted Jeggings, so if you aren’t wanting the cropped look, I recommend sizing up one from your normal sweater size.
TOP DETAILS: This boyfriend button down top is so comfortable! It’s super lightweight – this particular color that I’m wearing was even a little sheer so I’d recommend wearing a cami or bralette like this one or this one underneath. Same top but in a different color is below and that one wasn’t sheer at all so color plays a big role. Otherwise, it’s great for the spring, summer and early fall months! When not tied, the top is a great length for leggings or even a swimsuit cover-up as well! Wearing an X-Small.
TOP DETAILS: This is the same top as the one above only a different color. Sadly, it’s currently sold out online but I’ll keep my eyes peeled for a restock!
SWEATSHIRT DETAILS: The sporty look is a big spring trend this year so AE has a ton of sweaters to style. I love the stripe details on the arm of this one but this block colored one is also a favorite. The best part is that you can layer them now (like I did here) for when it’s still cold out, and then pair them with shorts for spring and early summer. Wearing an X-Small but if you’re between sizes, go down.
