It’s that time of year again – the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! For some, this is where you stock up on classic pieces (like these easy everyday tee’s) that you can wear year after year, or get some trendy items (like this cardigan) for the fall/winter seasons ahead. And for others, it’s where you splurge on designer pieces when you can get them for a steal! Like this Tory Burch purse or these Marc Fisher booties.
No matter what you’re shopping for during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, I think it’s safe to say that it can be a tad overwhelming. That’s why I thought I would kick off my Nordstrom Anniversary coverage with a post on how to shop the sale without going crazy and/or spending a ton. So, without further adieu…
Browse First, Shop Later
Take it from me, it can be real easy to load up your cart with items from the sale and click ‘checkout’ as soon as you see your items are selling out. That’s why it may be in your best interest to browse the website thoroughly (or all your favorite blogger’s websites) before adding to your cart to make sure you are seeing all that is available. There’s also a lot of similar pieces in a variety of price ranges; take for instance, this cardigan and this cardigan, or this sweater and this sweater. Both very similar styles but two different price points. So make sure you’re not spending more than you have to by browsing the inventory before checking out! Few things are worse than buying something just to find out you could have gotten something super similar at a cheaper price.
Make a Wish List
Resist impulse buying and make a wish list (like mine here) before you start adding things to your cart. There are A LOT of bloggers out there covering the sale and suggesting #allthethings. If you trust them and love their style – go for it! But if you get caught up in all the suggestions and find yourself just getting something because someone else is getting it, a wish list will be your saving grace.
So ask yourself:
- Do I NEED it?
- Have I been looking for something like it?
- How often would I wear it? i.e. what will be the CPW (cost-per-wear)?
- Can I wear it in multiple season?
- Is it worth it?
Review Your Closet
In reference to the first question I suggest you ask yourself, ‘Do I need it?’ It’s incredibly smart to raid your own closet before shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. This can be challenging if you stow away your winter sweaters during the summer. But trust me, digging them out will be well worth your time and your wallet. From my experience, I got a few sweaters that once I got out to wear after summer, I realized I already owned something very similar to it. It’s so incredibly easy to get caught up in the excitement of new clothes at awesome prices! 🙂 Whether it’s the color or style, truly ask yourself if you’re adding something unique to your wardrobe.
Easy Returns Means You Can’t Go Wrong
The great thing about Nordstrom is that they have a killer return policy. Last year, being pregnant, I wasn’t about to go to the mall to try on everything. Plus, I’m the kind of shopper who prefers an online filter than rummaging through the racks at the store – websites are so much more organized, right? Anyway, I could buy what I wanted online, try it on at home and, if it didn’t work out, pack it up in the same bag it came in and ship it back (it comes with a pre-paid return label).
Word to the wise, it’s better to get additional sizes to try on then get something that doesn’t fit just to find out it’s now sold out. So, if you love something, make sure you’re taking advantage of their easy returns and getting it in multiple sizes.
